The natural art of a lichen community on fractured basalt in the Whitman County scablands
Coming soon, to Moscow, ID
Not that I need a reason to wander through the Palouse but it’s all the better to be invited to Moscow to do a book event and also display some of the large prints from the Beautiful Wounds portfolio. The book event, with Book People of Moscow, is Thursday evening but I’m on the road, this morning, to do the set up for the photography display. It’s 16 pieces altogether (they’ll be on sale for about a month) but let me share some favorites.
Upon Arrival is the unofficial flag of my scabland exhibitions, a 30x50 inch print of a canyon sunrise in the Drumheller Channels north of Othello.
Raindrops on lupine is from a rainy day trip to the Hawk Creek gorge which is at the northern edge of the scablands, where the creek falls and twists its way to a confluence with the Columbia River northeast of Creston, WA.
My Valentine is from a Valentine’s Day hike into the frozen expanse of Lake Creek Coulee in Lincoln County. Coyotes serenaded me on the long trek back to the nearest plowed road.
Remind Me is from a late spring afternoon on Rock Creek in the wilds of the Whitman County scablands.
Devil’s Toenail was photographed with a waterproof camera (and a good pair of water shoes) from the challenging whitewater rapids about a mile downstream from the Bowl & Pitcher in Riverside State Park.
Heart of Dry Coulee is from one of those vantage points where the scale of the ice age floods sprawls to a distant horizon. Dry Coulee is part of the labyrinthine complex of canyonlands that opens up to the east of Dry Falls in lower Grand Coulee.
Dance of the Shooting Stars celebrates one of my favorite early-to-mid-spring wildflowers. It’s just a delight to see something as colorful and reliable as these delicate flowers after a long, gray winter.
Again, you can find these prints (most on metal) and the other pieces of the visual ensemble in the very center of Moscow beginning this coming Thursday, June 15th. My part of the Art Walk event is hosted by Book People of Moscow at 521 S. Main, and I’ll be there Thursday late afternoon/evening to pester people and sign books. Hope to see you and/or your friends. If you can’t make it to Moscow, you can order Beautiful Wounds from Auntie’s Bookstore in Spokane or from W.W. Norton.
